One more book to Hunger Games trilogy
Suzanne Collins a well-known author of a famous trilogy called Hunger Games has announced that she is writing a prequel with a possible movie adaptation.
Four years ago the author of the trilogy wrote an emotional letter saying that it is time to move from Panem to the other lands. But it seems that we didn’t need to wait that long when Suzanne Collins will return to Panem. The author will write about Panem 64 years before “The Hunger Games”.
The novel is still untitled and due to come out in May 2020.
What storybook will tell?
Collins said: “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival.”
The author explains what this world would look like: “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days – as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet – provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
What new book release will mean for Suzanne Collins?
With a prequel coming, Collins will revive one of the most successful fantasy franchises of the past several decades.
The Hunger Games was a groundbreaking novel that told a fictional story about children from different districts. To survive, they needed to compete in a reality show where the stronger one survives. From the other fantasy novels like “Twilight” and “Harry Potter”, Collins’s series ushered in a new wave of dark dystopian and post-apocalyptic children’s books.
When 2008 “The Hunger Games” was first released it became a bestseller. After two other books followed, they were translated into 54 languages. Books had more than 100 million copies and remained on the New York Times bestseller list for more than five years. Film adaptations earned $3 billion.
The idea for the series
Collins was flipping through the reality TV programs and news, and it was then that she got an idea for life and death battle which is televised for entertainment. The author was also influenced by her father’s military service in Vietnam. She wanted to introduce young readers to war theory.
After the conclusion of the trilogy, Collins stayed quiet. But she managed to write one book called “Year of the Jungle”.
For “The Hunger Games” author it is a challenge to write a book that will be loved as much as her previous books. Maybe the unique characters made the trilogy so great and interesting to young people and their parents. But if the prequel is set 64 years before events that were set in previous books, that means that our loved characters won’t be in the new book. That means that Collins’s new main characters need to be as interesting as the previous ones.
But fans still may love the prequel, not because of the similarity to its previous books, but because of the author’s talent. Suzanne Collins is a brilliant author and a master of storytelling. That’s why we believe that “The Hunger Games” prequel book will be a success.
