Since the biopic genre is gaining speed these days with such successes as Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, it is only understandable that other iconic and for their time controversial artists will want to get in on the fun. This time the English singer, songwriter and designer Boy George has decided to throw his hat in the ring.

Who is Boy George?

Boy George, born George Alan O’Dowd, is known for his flamboyant 80s looks and silky tenor voice. He has been the lead vocalist of the pop band Culture Club, with whom he has had such hit singles as “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Want To Hurt Me”. In many interviews, he has stated that his look has always been inspired by such icons as David Bowie and Iggy Pop. Although lately, his ventures have reached beyond the music business, for example, George has been working in photography as well as taking up writing and clothes designing.

A biopic in the making

Although no cast has been yet declared, MGM Studios have revealed that Sacha Gervasi has been picked to both write and direct the movie. His previous work in the biopic genre includes Anvil! The Story of Anvil and Hitchcock. No casting calls or yet even a release date has been announced, but MGM is sure that soon all the works are going to be underway.

The leading lady for the leading gentleman part

George himself has expressed the desire for the successful English actress Sophie Turner to depict him in the upcoming biopic. Although many critics of his have said that that would be inappropriate since the actress is a woman, George and Turner themselves don’t see this as an issue. As she has said herself, she is “SO down” to dive into the part. Turner so far has been best known as the feminine yet strong Sansa Stark in the HBO TV series Games of Thrones.

On account of the popularity of both George and Turner, it is safe to say that fans of both artists are getting more excited by the day. As is any other fan of the biopic genre.
