John Bramblitt is an artist coming from Texas, US. His artworks have sold in more than 120 countries all around the world and have appeared multiple times on TV and radio. He may also be known for designing magazine covers and even artworks for film projects. He is the main subject in award-winning films like “Line Of Sight” and “Bramblitt”. He has also received a fair share of recognition from YouTube videos and the three Presidential Service Awards for his contributions to the art field.

The thing which separates John Bramblitt from other artists in the community is that he is blind and despite that, he can put out fascinating pieces of art.

Life Before And After Tragedy

Before losing his vision, John Bramblitt studied at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas where he graduated with honorable results. In 2001 sadly John lost his vision because of complications created by epilepsy and Lyme disease. After this had happened his dreams of becoming a creative writing teacher vanished and he fell into a deep state of depression. Because of that, he felt isolated from his family and friends, but something astonishing happened and he discovered the art of painting. He learned how to distinguish apart different paint colors by feeling the consistency and texture of the paint he was working with, he taught himself how to paint in a way so he could orient himself on the canvas by using thick and raised strokes of paint. With that, he was able to use a sense called haptic visualization which enables him to create a picture of what he is painting just by feeling and touching the canvas. That even allows him to paint amazingly realistic portraits of people that he has not seen.

John’s Look On Life

He has said that art has reshaped his life and that his paintings are personal and taken from events that have happened at some point in his life. He has provided the community with workshops that allow people from complete beginners to event professionals to come and paint, but also are welcoming to people who have disabilities. According to him, everyone has an artist in them, but they need some amount of help to bring it out and let it flourish.
