We are truly lucky to have an opportunity to get this Wacom’s new stylus.
Compared to its competition – Bamboo Ink Plus is the “next-gen” stylus and in my opinion, if you’re in search of a new stylus then Wacom Bamboo Ink Plus should be an option for you.
Simply because, from its previous version, the Wacom Bamboo Ink, it has gained some upgrades which make the Plus version more reliable and obviously – better.

Design Is Everything
If we take both Bamboo Ink and the new Bamboo Ink Plus side by side, we can see its design has improved a lot.
However, let’s not completely thrash the predecessor because the new stylus hasn’t changed completely – it still sports some of the good aspects of the previous design.
I’m talking about the things that were good and didn’t need an upgrade – its easily replaceable nibs and the triangular barrel shape that keeps the pen from rolling off the desk.
What else is good about the design is its brushed rubber covering, making the grip better in your hand.
There’s an undesirable effect to this design feature as well – it always looks a little dusty, but that’s not a big deal anyway.
Also, kudos to Wacom for redesigning the top button because in the previous version it was a little fragile.
They redesigned it by making the barrel and the top button a one-piece (there used to be a gap between them) so it’s more durable now, and that’s important because we need the top button for Bluetooth pairing.
What Is Inside This Beast?
You can be sure you’re upgrading when getting the Bamboo Ink Plus because it has received improvements not only design-wise but also inside.
Now, you can use this stylus on various types of tablets because it supports:
- Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP)
- Wacom Active ElectroStatic (AES) protocol
This means the Bamboo Ink Plus is compatible with many devices, including Microsoft Surface laptops and even Lenovo Thinkpad tablets.
Thankfully, you don’t need to install any specific drivers, so if you encounter a problem not knowing which protocol to use on your device, then you can try both of them.
And switching those protocols doesn’t require any education at all – you just have to hold both side buttons and the protocols will switch.
Looking at other great things this pen has, are pressure sensitivity with 4,096 levels and added tilt support.
