Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), a former alcoholic sportsman, takes on the task of preparing the team for the game. The coach does not have any special hopes for women. But over time, looking at the team’s zeal for victory, Jimmy’s attitude changes. One of the participants was played by Madonna, who until that moment had never held a baseball in her hands.
Philadelphia (1993)
The story of how successful lawyer Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) is fired from his job due to AIDS, under the guise of ridiculous excuses about his professional inadequacy. All attempts by a lawyer to restore justice are unsuccessful. Andrew decides to defend himself alone. Later, Joe Miller (Denzel Washington) comes to his defense and the men continue to fight together.
It was the first film to openly talk about homophobia and such a terrible disease as AIDS. The problem was highlighted at the state level and turned the authorities’ attitude towards this disease. Director Jonathan Demme’s courage has brought success – the film is included in the list of the most inspiring in the last hundred years.
Forrest Gump (1994)
The story of Forrest, a mentally handicapped guy who has gone through a lot of things. But he scrambled through life as best he could. Even without noticing it, Forrest achieved a high result and was able to influence the way of life of the whole country. The main character met legendary people – John Lennon, Richard Nixon, and other famous personalities. Most interestingly, Forrest did not even understand the epic nature of these meetings.

Apollo 13 (1995)
The film is directed by Ron Howard and is loosely based on The Lost Moon by James Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. The story of one of the most tragic moments in the history of space exploration – the unsuccessful mission of the Apollo 13 spacecraft. The main task of the spaceship was to deliver astronauts to the moon. No signs of trouble. Just before the landing at its destination, an accident occurs on Apollo 13, which endangers not only the operation but also the lives of all crew members. James Lovell, played by Hanks, and the entire team go into battle with outer space.
The film gave rise to a new era of cinema about flights to other planets. It is striking that some of the scenes were filmed in a special laboratory plane in natural zero gravity, which made it even more believable.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
A WWII drama by Steven Spielberg. John Miller (Tom Hanks) – Company Commander. Together with the soldiers, he falls into the hands of the Germans, having landed in one of the regions of Normandy. Having broken through the defenses, they still manage to escape. During the hostilities, many soldiers are killed, including three brothers named Ryan. The headquarters command gives the task to John Miller to find the fourth brother, who serves as a private in the ranks of the American army. But finding a soldier was not easy.
The motion picture was well received by the audience. The film was nominated for an Oscar 11 times and grossed a record $ 481 million.
The Green Mile (1999)
A screen adaptation of the mystical novel by Stephen King. All events take place in a prison called “Cold Mountain”. In it, the most dangerous criminals await execution.
