Biography

Eilish is a native of Los Angeles, she was born on December 18, 2001. The singer’s full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell.

The artist’s ancestors are Irish and Scots by origin, who have long emigrated to America. Born into a creative family, Eilish’s parents devoted their entire lives to folk music.

Billy has an older brother Finneas, also a musician, who played one of the key roles at the start of her career.

Billie Eilish as a child

As a child, she was engaged in dancing and wanted to associate her future adult life with them, but she severely injured her leg, after which she tied up with professional choreography.

Like her brother, she studied at home at the insistence of her parents – the O’Connells considered schools to be the mainstays of a system of coercion that deprived children of the opportunity to develop creatively. For this reason, as a child, she sincerely believed that every family loves to play musical instruments and record compositions of her own composition.

Passion for vocals

She first tried to sing at the age of two at a family celebration, at eight she was admitted to a children’s choir, and at eleven she tried to write songs on her own, imitating her older brother, who then gathered a group.

The family supported her musical development in every possible way but ruled out any compulsion to practice music, leaving the child with the right to choose.

Career

She made her debut at thirteen years old with the lyric song “Ocean Eyes”, written by her brother for himself, but given to her sister. A video was subsequently shot for this composition, and a number of critics noted Eilish’s deep, not at all teenage, vocals.

According to the singer, she and the dance teacher just wanted to record a choreographic video for which the song was needed, and “Ocean Eyes” has not left her mind for several weeks. But then she did not hope for a serious attitude to the song and did not expect a positive reaction from the audience to her vocal abilities.

However, once it got online, the track quickly became popular, and the young singer was talked about as a promising novice performer. Soon, the video with the track Eilish went viral, every day more and more people learned about the song, and a year later it sounded in two films at once – the full-length film “All This World” in 2016 and the ninth episode of the first season of the television series “Runaways”.

Early career

At the same time, the aspiring singer released two more songs that were included in the soundtrack for the seventh season of the television series Pretty Little Liars. And the positive feedback received by Ocean Eyes and the track’s remixes led to the release of Billy’s single Bellyache in the winter of 2017, presented on TV as part of the Jimmy Fallon Show. A video was shot for the title track of the single, which was promoted by the Miles and AJ company, which previously actively collaborated with a number of promising young performers.

By February 2018, about 35 million people listened to the singer’s debut single on Spotify, and by May 2019 it had amassed another 110 million views on YouTube. This attracted the attention of the aspiring artist to several major recording studios, including Interscope Records, and the single was successfully reissued.

Further success

Then Eilish recorded the song “Bored”, which became the soundtrack for the television series “Thirteen Reasons Why”, and immediately after it – two more successful singles.

By the end of summer 2017, the girl also had her first EP titled “Don’t Smile at Me”. The release quickly received gold status, and one of the tracks included in it went platinum – it was downloaded by one million users.

The EP entered the US TOP-15 almost instantly after its release, and on the Apple Music platform, it broke the pre-order record even before it was released.

Not without the inclusion of songs from the singer’s fresh mini-album into the soundtrack, this time it was the song “My Boy”, which sounded in the third season of the TV series “Shadowhunters”.

The follow-up single “Bellyache” was also a commercial success, allowing the singer to acquire an army of loyal fans. In early 2018, Billy went on a three-month tour for the first time in her career, after which she delighted fans with a couple of new tracks.

Top tracks

1. The first place on this list is, of course, “Bad Guy” – the song that became the undisputed leader of the “Hot 100” chat and a number of other popular charts.

2. Also noteworthy is the song “When The Party’s Over”, included in the list of soundtracks for one of the episodes of the series “Riverdale”. Later, a psychedelic clip was shot on her, the basis for which was a drawing sent to the singer by a fan.

3. And the top three of the singer’s best tracks “Six feet under” closes – a lyrical song that reveals the performer from a different, unexpected angle and, perhaps, more accurately reflects her nature, carefully hidden behind a bright and aggressive stage image.
