Film career

Leonardo DiCaprio began his film career early and first appeared in front of television cameras at the age of 2.5 when his father decided to take him on a popular US children’s TV show. Already at the age of 14, Leo decided to devote his life to the cinema and found himself an agent. The comedy horror “Critters 3”, released in 1991, became his debut. After Leo began to get roles in serious films such as the adaptation of Tobias Wolfe’s semi-autobiographical book “This Boy’s Life”, the dramas “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “Marvin’s Room”. Contrary to the sad tradition in Hollywood, DiCaprio did not become one of those up-and-coming actors who were forgotten as they grew up. On the screen, during his career, he managed to try on almost all possible images. His most popular films are What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Titanic, Gangs of New York, Aviator, The Departed, Blood Diamond, Inception, The Great Gatsby, The Wolf of Wall Street ”and“ Survivor ”. For his role in Hugh Glass in the movie “The Survivor”, the actor was awarded an Academy Award.

Awards

The lead role in The Survivor earned Leonardo DiCaprio the first Oscar in his long acting career – after five unsuccessful nominations.

Whether Leo will receive an Oscar was perhaps the main intrigue of the ceremony. That was the sixth nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio was first nominated for an award in 1994 for Best Supporting Actor in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Then, after a ten-year break, several more nominations followed: 2005 – Best Actor in the Picture “Aviator”; 2007 – Best Actor in the Film “Blood Diamond”; 2014 – two nominations at once with the film “The Wolf of Wall Street”: Best Actor and Best Film (DiCaprio also acted as a producer in it). But none of these nominations was crowned with a coveted statuette for DiCaprio. On stage, the newly minted Oscar-winner looked restrained and internally collected.

In his speech after the presentation of the statuette, 41-year-old DiCaprio said that he in no way he does not take the received award for granted.
