Early life and education
Sergey Brin was born in 1973 in Moscow. During those times, Moscow was known as the Soviet Union. His family moved to the United States and settled in Maryland in 1979. Sergey attended Montessori school and later joined the University of Maryland where his father worked as a mathematics professor. Sergey graduated at the age of 20 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science. He continued with his studies at Stanford University after he received a scholarship from the National Science Foundation. He was an excellent researcher who wrote numerous papers on data analysis and pattern extraction.
During his time at Stanford University, Sergey met with Larry Page, the co-founder of Google. They discovered that they both had the same passion and that most of their interest complemented each other. For that reason, they decided to work as a team.
Career
Sergey began working on the development of search engines while still in the University. He and his friend Larry wanted to invent a search engine that would allow web users to easily access information after they type specific keywords. To complete their project, Sergey and his colleague had to raise one million dollars from investors and they successfully developed their desired search engine. Later, Sergey Brin co-founded the Google company and registered it in 1998. The following year, the company received twenty-five million dollars from venture capitalists and started processing five hundred thousand questions in a day.
Sergey can be described as a minimalist because he focused on keeping the Google home page simple. It is said that Sergey influenced his colleagues to be more interested in developing a fast-loading search engine rather than having colorful graphics. Since Google was growing at a rapid rate, Sergrey recruited a third executive to help them manage the company. Eric Schmidt, the new chief executive officer took Segreys position and Sergey positioned himself as the president of Technology.
The market capitalization of Google
By 2004, the market capitalization of Google was twenty-three billion dollars and at the age of twenty-seven, Sergey became a multi-billionaire. In 2006, Sergey and his colleagues bought Youtube, one of the top video sites on the internet. Before YouTube was not making enough money but after Google acquired it, they managed to transform it into a money-making site. Sergrey employed his former partner Susan as the chief executive of the YouTube team and together they have built it into a profitable entity.
In 2009, Google managed to stretch its services to one hundred nations across the globe. Nonetheless, problems started to arise when some governments most specifically China began to subject Google to anti-liberal laws. In 2010, Sergey mobilized Google executives working in China to leave their offices. Sergey did not agree with the idea of censoring their search results as suggested by the Chinese government. Up to this day, Google’s operation in China has never been successful due to the continued censorship imposed by the Communist political party.
In 2015, Sergey and his workmates re-arranged the interests of Google. They founded a holding entity called Alphabet Inc. It is the primary subsidiary of Google. Sergey became its president, Larry Page the chief executive officer and Eric Schmidt became the chairman.

By the end of 2019, Sergey Brin retired from his official positions to pursue other interests. However, Sergey remains one of the largest stockholders of both Google and Alphabet.
