Ewan is a famous Scottish actor and director, well known to millions of viewers for his work in Trainspotting and the new Star Wars trilogy, which gave this actor a real breakthrough in his career. However, McGregor was not always as famous and popular as we know him today. Prior to his famous portrayal of drug addict Mark Renton and Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was busy for a long time in a number of low-budget and bizarre Hollywood films, which remained practically unknown to anyone.
Ewen was born in the Scottish town of Perth on March 31, 1971. His parents worked at the school: his father was a physical education teacher, and his mother was a school administrator. In addition to Ewan, the brother of our hero Colin was also brought up in the McGregor family.
After secondary school, the future actor received professional education at the School of Music and Drama, after which he became a student at the Morrison Academy.
McGregor’s professional career Ewan made his film debut in 1993. His first works were the film “Family Style”, as well as the series “Lipstick on Your Collar ” and “Red and Black”. Already in 1994, the performance of the young actor in such films as “Being Human” and “Shallow Grave” was noted by critics. And two years later, a real breakthrough came in his beginning career – McGregor played the main role in the cult film Trainspotting. In 1999, the actor had another resounding success after the role of the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the movie “Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace”, and two years later, McGregor, together with the famous actress Nicole Kidman, starred in the famous film adaptation of the musical “Moulin Rouge”. In the same period, the movie “Star Wars. Episode II: Attack of the Clones was released on the screens of the world, and in 2003 another outstanding work of the actor was released – the main role in the fantasy film “Big Fish”. In 2007, the actor starred in the film “Cassandra’s Dream”, and two years later he could be seen in the comedies “Crazy Special Forces”, “I Love You Phillip Morris” and “Amelia”. In 2011, Ewen’s most notable work was the wonderful melodrama Last Love on Earth.
In 2018, the most outstanding film of the actor was the biopic, Christopher Robin.

In addition, his work in “Moulin Rouge” and “Fargo” was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. The actor was also nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and for the Evening Standard Award for Best Supporting Actor in Ghost. For his work in the third season of the television project “Fargo”, released in 2017, McGregor was also awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actor in the Series. The actor received the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in the 2003 Scottish film Young Adam and Best Actor in Trainspotting in 1996. For the best role in the film “Moulin Rouge,” McGregor was awarded the Empire Prize. The actor was awarded the same prize four years earlier for his role in the fantastic tragicomedy “Life is Worse Than Usual.” In 2010, Ewen added the European Film Award for European Actor to his collection of awards for his brilliant performance in the 2010 film Ghost.
Around the world trip
Few people know about this, but there was such an amazing episode in the life of our birthday boy that happened in 2004. Exhausted on the set of the difficult movie “Big Fish”, Ewan McGregor decided to give himself a little rest from work and went on a round-the-world expedition, taking with him actor Charlie Burman, his close friend, as well as a professional cameraman for filming. Starting on April 14 from London, they crossed countries such as Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia on motorcycles, covering a total distance of more than thirty thousand kilometers. As the actor himself later recalled, a motorcycle ride across Eurasia became one of the most adventurous and exciting adventures in his entire life. However, the friends did not stop in Mongolia. Having crossed the Bering Strait, they continued their journey through Alaska, Canada, and the United States, ending their journey in New York on July 29, 2004. All their adventures McGregor and Burman recorded on video, from which the documentary “The Long Road Around the World” was subsequently edited.
Personal life
You probably ask, but what about such an outstanding and talented person with his personal life? Alas, against the background of his much more noisy colleagues, who often change wives almost every season, Ewan McGregor did not stand out in anything surprising or outstanding. He’s a Scotsman, and that says it all. Back in 1995, the actor’s wife was the Greek-born production designer Yves Mavrakis, whom she met during the filming of the television series Kavanagh’s QC. In 1996 and 2001, the couple had daughters Clara Matilda and Esther Rose. Also, two adopted Mongolian girls, Jamiyan and Anuk, were brought up in their families. Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis were, until recently, some of the most exemplary couples in Hollywood. However, a year ago, they still divorced due to irreconcilable differences. Today Ewan found solace in actress Mary Winstead, whom he met while working together on the TV series Fargo.
