Iggy Azalea (Amethyst Amelia Kelly) was born in Sydney on June 7, 1990. But soon her family moved to Mullumbimby – a small town in New South Wales. The father of the young Amethyst was a painter by education, and his main job was drawing comics. Iggy’s mom carried the family budget by cleaning up hotels and holiday homes. As Azalea admitted later, her father-artist implanted in her a love of art and, at the same time, a specific “teenage” view of it, which gradually became part of her worldview. The girl, whose songs and videos are now exploding in numerous charts, has felt a craving for music since childhood. She dreamed of one day becoming a glorified star, and at the age of 14, she first began to rap. Around the same time, Iggy formed a small group, which included two local girls. Azalea liked performing and being a rapper, but soon she left this amateur group, as her partners did not take the young artist seriously.

Moving to the USA

From a young age, Amethyst dreamed in reality about how she would move to America. In her country, the aspiring rapper felt like a failure, and it seemed to her that in the USA, the homeland of hip-hop, everything would be completely different. Iggy never built castles in the air – she was always serious about what she does, what she purposes, and what she dreams about. Therefore, soon after the failure of her group, the girl dropped out of school and began to help her mother clean up hotel rooms and holiday houses.

Having accumulated enough money to move to the United States, at the age of sixteen, the girl went to pursue her dream. She told her parents she was going to America supposedly for some holiday with a friend and then she called home and said that she intends to stay in the States. She felt extremely comfortable in the USA and felt that this was where she should be. The girl was not worried about financial problems and the fact that she was alone far from home. She found work, traveled around the country, and enjoyed a dream come true despite her young age.

Music

In 2010, after moving to Los Angeles, Iggy Azalea decided to seriously pursue her musical dream. As a representative of the youth of the 21st century, she was not going to knock on the doors of recording studios and throw herself at the feet of music producers. Rather, Azalea started recording her songs and uploading them to YouTube. Iggy’s unique style of recitative and her undoubted rapping skill became the reason that her channel on the famous video hosting site was getting more and more subscribers. And when 2011 the artist posted her first official video, they started talking about her as one of the brightest young talents. This song, as well as the subsequently released mixtape “Ignorant Art”, has formalized and consolidated the individuality of Azalea’s work: her lyrics are provocative, bold, sometimes bordering on vulgarity, and designed to break the usual patterns. The attention of record labels was not long in coming: in 2012, the girl signed a contract with Grand Hustle Records for the release of her first studio album. The mini-album was called “Glory”, which included the song “Murda Bizness” and five more songs.

In the fall of 2012, the artist released her second mixtape, called TrapGold, shortly after which she began working on the new album The New Classic and the upcoming singles. Then she was lucky enough to work with such a performer as Rita Ora.

In early 2013, Rita embarked on a concert tour of the UK, dubbed the Radioactive Tour, and took Azalea with her as an opening act. This was followed by the successful presentation of the first single from the recorded album – the song Work, a contract with the label Mercury Records, shooting a video for the new single, and even an invitation from the famous rapper Nas to take part in the European part of his tour. In June 2013, Iggy Azalea performed at the Chime for Change benefit concert in London. Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and many other famous artists sang on the same stage.

In the same spirit, Iggy’s career developed until 2014, when a breakthrough happened in her creative life: a single called Fancy suddenly became a real-world hit. The song blew up many world charts and, more importantly, ended up at # 1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. The singer turned out to be the first light-skinned rap girl who managed to top this chart.

In 2016, Azalea was planning to release a new album, Digital Destruction. She presented several lead singles in support of the disc, these are hits by Team, Mo bounce, and Switch. But the singer’s plans changed: the celebrity switched to another label, because of which work on the disc was suspended.

The artist’s next disc was released only in 2019. It was named In My Defense and came out after the singles Just Wanna, Sally Walker, and Started. When creating the rapper’s disc, colleagues Lil Yachty, Juicy J, Kash Doll, and Stine noted. During her creative biography, Azalea also showed herself as an actress in the movie “Fast and Furious 7”. Iggy played the cameo role of Vin Diesel’s character friend. It took 16 hours of preparation and rehearsal to film her appearance on the screen with a two-line phrase.

Personal life

In late 2011, Iggy Azalea began dating the famous A $ AP Rocky. The loving couple officially announced their relationship in early January 2012, and Azalea even got a tattoo on her fingers with the name of Rocky’s popular mixtape “Live.Love.A $ AP”.

In November 2013, she started to date the swingman of the NBA Los Angeles Lakers team Nick Young, the cousin of rapper Kendrick Lamar. In the summer of 2016, their wedding was supposed to take place, but on June 20, it was officially announced that the couple had split up a year after their engagement.

On September 29, 2018, it became known that Iggy was dating Playboi Carti.

In June 2020, she confirmed that she gave birth to a son from Playboi Carti. They named him Onyx Carter.
