Richard Harris, a splendid Irish actor, who starred in some outstanding films, and who was able to occupy much screen area, had a career in the film business for over forty years. This Sporting Life (1963)

Film Synopsis:This is a powerful drama in Northern working class life with Richard Harris in the lead supported by Lindsay Anderson. Harris is Frank Machin, an intellectual and upwardly mobile Welsh miner who becomes a rugby player. All these aspects of Frank’s temper, his attitude to love, and his life as depicted in the movie can be said to be painted to the optimum. 

Performance: Richard Harris was very good as Frank Machin and was dark and gritty in his portrayal that he was perhaps over praised. Therefore the result could be attributed to the reason that he depicted the conflicting and barbarous nature of the character. For this role Harris got his first Academy Award nomination in the Best actor category and thus he was awarded as one of the gifted actor of the film industry. 

 The Field (1990)

 Film Synopsis: There may be no other places or settings or scenes in the Field, it is a film that Jim Sheridan directed for script written by John B. Keane play based on one act only. It is the story of an Irish farmer, Bull McCabe, who has been very dedicated in tilling a given piece of land. It becomes the subject of a rather violent and destructive process. 

Performance: In “The Field’ Harris presented one of the excellent performances as Bull McCabe, whose motivation was pride, tradition and the land. Harris delivers the curse, the fixed role of a man whose entire existence is in the land he dares boast to defend through Bull. For this role he was once more nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Actor, which was his second nomination. 

Legacy and later career 

However, Richard Harris can be referred to as an actor who could present several outstanding roles on the stage and on the screen. This was a time when he was able to do the ‘Action hero’. And at the same time, he accepted to do the ‘Anti-hero’, the rugged, rough looking type; likewise, he was in a position to do the ‘New Man’, the deep thinker type. Camelot 

from 1967 Despite the fact that he was not a singer by trade, Harris was a professional actor who played King Arthur in this musical drama. As a result, Harris was able to perform as well as sing in the production. He also got the chance to perform real stunts like a stunt man in this movie. 

Inconceivable (1992) 

Harris portrayed English Bob, a gunman, in one of the most popular Westerns ever made. Clint Eastwood directed and starred in the film. The Gladiator One more piece of work of Ridley Scott, this time the verifiable show was with Harris in the job of the Roman ruler Marcus Aurelius. 

Last role and legacy 

As a result, Richard Harris introduced a Dumbledore to a generation of viewers in his final years of acting.That kindly and gentle headmaster of Hogwarts was him and that made him dear to the viewers of all ages.
