Robert Downey Jr. (also known as RDJ), was born April 4, 1965, in New York City, New York. His career as an actor spans more than forty years and has given him an incredible listing of credits that number very close to 100. Of these multiple roles, RDJ is most known as Iron Man or Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also well recognizable for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the detective’s latest adaptation. He has also made appearances in Saturday Night Live, Ally McBeal, Gothika, The Shaggy Dog, and Zodiac.

Lately, Downey hinted that he might be retiring from his much-beloved role as Iron Man after the 2019 release of Avengers: Endgame. This does not mean that it is the last time you will see of him, of course, as the 53-year-old actor is known for constantly reinventing himself. But what is coming next for Robert Downey Jr.? Here is what is known.

In “Avengers: Endgame” (2019)

While numerous fans might be devastated that Robert Downey Jr. may no longer be playing the role of Iron Man, they will have one last approved chance to see him at his finest on April 16, 2019. Avengers: Endgame will have the group of superheroes teaming up one last time to defeat Thanos. The plot lets us know that they will be attempting to undo the unraveling of the universe where half of the population (including some Avengers) were banished from existence.

While not a lot has been announced about Avengers: Endgame, the word is that the opening scene will have Tony Stark (Iron Man) attempting to call Pepper Potts from the planet he was last seen on in Avengers: Infinity War

In “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle” (2020)

Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the title character in this newest adaptation of the classic story of a physician who discovers he can communicate with animals. This discovery leads to many great adventures. Interestingly enough, RDJ is not the only Avengers star to be appearing in this film. Tom Holland, who plays the young Spiderman, will be voicing one of the characters in the movie.

In “All-Star Weekend”

The release date and casting roles have not yet been confirmed for this film, but a general casting list has. Besides Downey, the list also includes big names like Eva Longoria, Gerard Butler, Benicio Del Toro, and Jamie Foxx. According to IMDB, All-Star Weekend is a story about “two buddies who form a rivalry over their favorite American basketball player.”

In “Sherlock Holmes 3”

RDJ will once again reprise his role as the super investigator, Sherlock Holmes, in the third installment of the most recent franchise. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 22, 2021. There are no details on the plot as of yet since the movie is in the pre-production phase. There was a partial casting list released, however, which confirms that Jude Law will again be playing Doctor John Watson.
